What is SmartPhish?

SmartPhish is a tutoring platform.  Basically, you can come here to learn or to teach.  If you're a student, you should come here when you need help or want to learn something new from the best tutors.  If you're a tutor, you should come here to teach and build a reputation.

Who is SmartPhish?

SmartPhish was founded by CEO Scott Harper and CTO Greg Smith.  They previously worked together on CharityFusion.com.

What can I get help with or learn on SmartPhish?

Our goal is for you to be able to learn or get help with whatever you want, whether you need help on that big calculus test tomorrow or you just feel like learning Chinese.

For Students

Does it cost anything to sign up?

Nope, not one red cent.

How much does tutoring cost?

Tutors set their own prices, but you can see plainly on their profile what they charge.

How do I book a tutoring session on SmartPhish?

First, search for whatever you need help with.  Then just browse the profiles or tutors who look interesting to you.  If you are ready to book, just look at the tutor's schedule, select the time that works, and pay for it.  You and the tutor will decide on the location.

How do I know if a tutor is any good?

Check out the ratings left by previous students.  This is the best way to gauge whether they will be able to help you.

How do I schedule a session with a tutor?

Once you are in the tutor's schedule, you just click on the time you would like to meet with the tutor and then pay.  That's it!

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?

You need to make sure this is done 24 hours before the session to scheduled or we will have to charge you.  If this happens, you should contact the tutor to see if they will honor your payment and find another time to help.  I bet they'll be happy to help. 

Can my parents fund my account?

Yes!  Please tell them to do so.  This way you can get help whenever you need it and not pay with any of your own money.  Parents love good grades.

What about privacy and security?

Your privacy and security are extremely important to us.  Please check out our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.  Ultimately we can't guarantee your safety and nothing is a substitute for your own good judgment. 

Can I be a tutor and a student at the same time?

Yep, absolutely! If you're a tutor, just sign up for a time with other tutors.  If you're a student, you just need to fill in your tutoring information.

For Tutors

How do I get started tutoring on SmartPhish?

Easy! You just click join now and select the tutor button.  Just fill out the requested information.  Go check your email and click the confirmation button.  Then just fill out your tutoring info.

What can I teach?

We are really focused on college learning at this point.  We have many subject categories for you to choose from, but don't hesitate to let us know if we missed one.

What tools will be available on SmartPhish?

Right now we provide you with the ability to create a profile, manage your schedule, show up in search results, take credit card payments, have your own page on the smartphish site, and establish your brand and reputation with our feedback system.  We have only released a few of the awesome tools that will ultimately be available, so stick around and see what we release next!

How do students schedule lessons with me?

Students will just click a time slot you have entered on your schedule and fill in the rest of the information right there.  That's it!

How do I get paid from my tutoring sessions?

You will be paid through PayPal.  You just need to enter your PayPal email address and you'll be able to withdraw money from your SmartPhish account whenever you want.

What does all this cost?

Signing up is FREE.  We charge 15% of every session booked through SmartPhish. 

Do I need any special certifications to tutor?

No, but don't sign up to tutor in any subject you haven't mastered.  Students will rate you based on your performance, so if you receive poor ratings then you probably won't attract new business.  If at any time we feel that someone is abusing the system, we will have to ban them from the site. 

How do students find me on SmartPhish?

Students will search for whatever it is they need help with and you will be shown in the search results for relevant searches.  Also, you get a custom address that you can advertise with e.g. www.smartphish.com/yourname.

We will do everything we can to get as many students on the site as possible.  You will have to be part of the team effort that will make this successful for both of us.

How is my reputation calculated?

After a student has done a session with you, they will leave your feedback.  You will be rated "positive", "neutral" or "negative".  You get plus one point for positive, zero for neutral and minus one point for negative.  Your percentage positive feedback is just #sessions rated positive/ #total sessions. 

Can I be a tutor and a student at the same time?
